ONE FLAG, ONE CONSTITUTION: WHAT WE FORGOT
By Kenneth F. Crowe | America As I See It | Malone, NY 12953 | americaasiseeit.com
I was born and raised in Malone, NY, up here in Franklin County where the North Country meets the Adirondacks. I've lived here my whole life, 76 years. I've seen a lot change, and I've seen a lot stay the same.
What stays the same is this: when you go to Cooks Corners Wesleyan Church on Avery Road in Brushton, or you go to the volunteer fire department dinner in Constable, you still see the same thing. Neighbors helping neighbors. The flag still flies. People still stand for the Pledge.
That is what I mean when I say One Flag, One Constitution.
I started America As I See It because I wanted to write down what I see before it's gone. The little white churches. The family farms. The main streets that still matter. From Malone to Brushton to Cooks Corners.
We have one flag. We don't have two flags. We don't have three flags. We have one. It stands for everybody. It stood for my parents, it stands for my kids, and I hope it stands for my grandkids. It is red, white, and blue. It doesn't change based on who is in office.
We have one Constitution. It is the same document that was written all those years ago. It doesn't change because we disagree. It is what holds us together when everything else feels like it's coming apart. It says we have freedom of speech. It says we have freedom of religion. It says we have the right to be heard.
What we forgot is that we are supposed to be one people. We are not supposed to be two countries living in one. We are supposed to be neighbors. In Franklin County, if your tractor breaks down, your neighbor comes over. He doesn't ask who you voted for first.
That is the America I see.
I lost my house in a fire here in Malone a few years back. I lost 50 years of collecting — stamps from the 1800s, thousands of comic books from the 1950s, and thousands of baseball cards. A whole lifetime of collecting gone in one night. So I don't collect things anymore. I collect stories now. This blog is my new collection.
I write about Malone history. I write about Franklin County. I write about Adirondack small towns. I write about what it means to believe in God, country, and family. No spin. Just what I see.
This is America As I See It.
One Flag. One Constitution. One Nation Under God.
